History of Rotary Club of The Villages-Evening
The Rotary Club of The Villages Evening enjoyed an auspicious beginning in March of 2012 when a group of current and prospective Rotarians gathered on the porch of Bonifay Country Club after learning there was an interest in forming an evening club in The Villages. Thanks to the hard work of several local Rotarians, a group worked quickly to hold an inaugural meeting on March 19 at the Waterfront Inn.
First-year President David Lewis stated that the new club would be involved with the entire community in fundraising events to provide scholarships, feed the poor and help veterans as well as other worthwhile causes. Those predictions were realized in the club’s first year when we collaborated with four major community charities to sell chances on a Prius C, a project which netted over $64,000 to be divided among those charities.
To enhance the development of relationships among club members, numerous social events as well as fundraisers a Mystery Dinner and the gala Cooking with Vodka benefitted charities and shared the Rotary message with others in the community.
In its second year under President Mary Anne Ashworth, the club looked at a more hands-on approach to helping those in need within the community. Members contributed their time and donations throughout the year to support various charitable organizations.
Even in its infancy the Rotary Club of The Villages Evening has impacted the lives of its members and hundreds of others throughout the community, a mission which the club intends to support and grow.
